Welcome to the latest edition of Studio Happenings. Don't miss all the exciting things we've got in store for you this week!

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink - Wednesday October 21

Don't miss the return of our popular "On Wednesdays We Wear Pink" charity event! This Wednesday, October 21, Studio Poise will be even pinker than usual as #poisenation joins together to help in the fight against breast cancer. Make sure to wear pink to class that day; every instructress will be donating $1 for every pink-wearing poiser in their classes. All donations will go toward Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and we'll also have a donation jar available if you'd like to make a contribution.

In addition to the class donations, don't miss these great ways to make a difference!

Pink Hair Extensions: Last year's pink hair extensions were so popular, we just had to bring them back! From 5-7pm on Wednesday we'll be offering this service in the SP lobby. $15 for one or $25 for two, with a portion of the proceeds going toward Making Strides.

#PoisedandCaring merchandise: Want to show your support of Making Strides long after your hair extension has grown out? Don't miss your chance to snap up our limited edition #poisedandcaring merchandise! The "We Dance As One" tank ($35) is still available in the studio, and the Lynn Firefighters "Fighting For a Cure" tees ($20) will be available beginning Wednesday 10/21. The Lynn Firefighters tees are also available for purchase by calling 781-246-1626, if you aren't able to make it to the Studio.

Fall is here, the temperatures are dropping, and around Studio Poise, that can only mean one thing... sweatpant season is back! #poisenation is obsessed with our signature glitter sweatpants, and for good reason - they're the comfiest, coziest item we offer all year long. For $32, you can choose between black with diamond glitter logo, charcoal with pink glitter logo, and gray with black glitter logo. Click here to place your order (note: we must have a credit card linked to your account to place the order!) Pro tip: guys love these sweatpants too, so if you don't want your pair to go mysteriously missing, think about ordering him a pair! Danielle will be placing a special non-glitter order for Mr. B, so if you want in on this, shoot her an email!

We're also excited to introduce our new SP Flowy Tank! This tank features the "Studio Poise" text logo on the front hem, and the SP round logo on the back, both in our favorite bling. This special order item is $45 and can also be ordered through our website, using your card on file.

All merchandise orders must be placed by the close of business on Wednesday, October 21, so don't delay!

Take the Lake 2015: PoiseNation Runs Together!

We're excited to announce that PoiseNation will be taking part in the 2015 Take the Lake 5K! This race will be held on Sunday, June 28, at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. The 5K route takes you around the lake, a favorite running destination for many of our favorite instructresses!

You have the option of running the 5K with a timed chip in your bib, or walking the route instead. This event is family-friendly; kids and strollers are welcome! All proceeds from the race go to the New England Community for Cancer Survivorship. This is a fantastic change to support a great cause and to have some fun with members of the SP community!

Studio Poise Joins Avapalooza

This Saturday, March 28, Team Studio Poise will be joining in the 4th annual Avapalooza to help find a cure for AT/RT. Read on to learn more about this fantastic event and to find out how to participate or contribute!

What is AT/RT?

Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) is deadly tumor diagnosed in childhood. AT/RT most commonly presents as a brain tumor, but can occur elsewhere in the central nervous system including the spinal cord.

AT/RT is highly malignant and thus has a high mortality rate. The age of the child at diagnosis has a significant correlation to survival rates. Children over three have seen survival rates in the 70-80% range. Unfortunately, for children under three, that rate falls to 10%. Because most children diagnosed with AT/RT are under three, the overall survival rate has historically been very low.

There currently is no known cure for AT/RT. However, there has been dramatic improvements in treatments recently and there is increased optimism that these new treatments will soon lead to significantly higher survival rates.  (

What is Avapalooza all about?

Avapalooza is an annual event inspired by Avalanna Routh, who touched so many people before losing her brave fight against AT/RT, a deadly form of brain cancer. Last year over 500 people participated in Avapalooza and raised $126,000 for pediatric cancer. Help us reach our 2015 goal of $200,000!

In 2008, Cameron and Aileen Routh launched Cure AT/RT to fund better treatments and ultimately find a cure for atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors, the cancer afflicting their three year old daughter, Avalanna.

Our goal is to cure all children suffering from AT/RT. Avalanna created global awareness of this rare pediatric brain cancer. She also helped raise funds that enabled early lab work and a first clinical trial at Dana Farber for AT/RT.  But we have so much work to do to achieve our goal and we need your help.

Avalanna came here with a purpose. She brought global awareness to AT/RT. She expanded people's hearts & minds. Avalanna inspired doctors at Dana Farber to commit to finding a cure for this deadly disease. We need to continue the movement that Avalanna launched to save the lives of children suffering from AT/RT and save the hearts of their parents who suffer daily.

How did Studio Poise become involved with Avapalooza?

When I met Jacob Bosse back in 2013, I didn't just meet him - but I met the youthful spirit of a beautiful little girl named Avalanna.  From the jump, Jake's love and devotion for Avalanna, her legacy, and his mission to complete her work were clear to me. Little by little, I learned more and more about AT/RT, and this little girl who he fights so hard to support still to this day. Jake heals through yoga, but strives as a teacher through his commitment for helping children, just like Avalanna, fight this rare and complex disease. While I was never able to meet Avalanna, I am so honored to have met such a great friend in Jake, and witness the utmost compassion of her mother, Aileen. I am grateful to be a part of this fight myself now; as Avalanna has captured my own heart in her quest to find a cure! <3 ~Danielle Roback

Avalanna and I met through a mutual friend. I remember the day I met Av, she was smiling and strutting around without a care in the world. Fresh out of a mani/pedi and rapidly typing away on her iPhone like a pro as she carried on a conversation with me. She was a special little girl and within an instant, I had been bitten by Av’s love bug. Her infectious laugh and smile will forever be with me.

After some assistance in fundraising efforts for Avalanna’s parents, they invited me in to sit of the Board of Directors for The Cure AT/RT Now Fund. A not-profit organization that raises funds for the research of pediatric brain cancer, in the loving memory of Avalanna. Together we have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for research at Dana Farber, supporting the efforts of Dr. Charlie Roberts.

For me, its an absolute joy and pleasure to help lead our efforts alongside of so many other amazing and generous people. Avalanna is a part of my heart and together we can find a cure. ~Yoga Jake

This year, we'll be running a March Madness bracket competition. For a $5 donation, which will be donated to the SP Instructress Team for Yoga Reaches Out (read more here), you can predict the winner of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Here's the details...

How To Register

We will be using the rules and procedures for this year's tournament. To sign up for a free membership and to read up on the tournament procedures, please click here.

Once you have registered, navigate to the Group Search Page to search for the Studio Poise team. Search for team name "PoiseNation" - this is our private group page! You'll need to enter the team password to join; the password is "sparkle".

Bracket Donation

Each bracket entry in the tournament challenge costs $5. You may enter more than one bracket if you wish! We will have a list of all user names / bracket names at the Lynnfield location after all entries have been locked in. Our outstanding lounge ladies will be collecting the cash; just make sure to let them know your bracket name so that we can check you off! All donations must be received by Thursday, March 26 - one week after the tournament begins. If we do not receive a donation for a bracket, the entry will be void and will not be eligible for the grand prize.

Registration Deadline

The official bracket will be released on Sunday, March 15, at which time you can begin choosing which teams you think will go all the way to the championship game. All brackets must be submitted to by tip off of the first game, which is currently scheduled for Thursday, March 19. We recommend getting your brackets in early - ESPN's website can be jammed the morning the tournament starts with last minute submissions!

What's the prize?

Everyone who enters can feel better knowing that we're all working together to support a great cause. You can also take pride in your bragging rights across all of PoiseNation! Best of all, the winner will receive a special SP Swag Bag packed with goodies!

We hope you'll all get into the spirit of the season by entering a bracket and testing your knowledge of NCAA basketball - or relying on pure luck! Whether you study up on sports columns before making your pick, choose winners based on their team colors or their mascots, or go with random guessing and blind luck, it's always fun to have a rooting interest in the tournament.

Best of all, this will be excellent practice for the upcoming Spring It On challenge - only once April comes, we'll be seeing your team names in the brackets!
