Our latest round of 6 Weeks 2 Chic kicks off this Saturday (still time to register - click here for info!) and we can't wait to get started. Still on the fence about whether to commit? We asked one of our 6W2C OGs, Colleen Myers, to tell us why she returned to the program over the years, and how it evolved into a broader lifestyle change for her.
I joined Studio Poise in February of 2013 - which feels like just yesterday, so time really does fly when you're having fun. Over the years I've tried every class and gone through every phase, from exclusively cardio classes, to doubling and tripling up combo classes, to embracing the big girl dumbbells in SPiit. I recently had a revelation: By exposing myself to so many types of classes, I've truly found a way to make fitness an integrated part of my life. Working out doesn't feel like a chore anymore, and I truly miss my workouts when I don't fit them in. That's a huge mental shift for me, and I credit the staff at SP for helping to get me there.
However, food and I, well, our relationship is why Facebook keeps that "It's Complicated" option around. Eating right has never become second nature to me. I have emotional connections to food and I just can't seem to shake them. When I dial in on my nutrition, I see the changes in my body, but when I "cheat," the scale shows it, no matter how hard I'm working at the gym.
My first foray into 6W2C was back in Summer of 2013. The program dates spanned two destination weddings I had committed to, and I used the program mostly to keep myself on track while traveling instead of going completely off the rails. I was pleasantly surprised by the results, though, and so I decided to repeat the program in Spring of 2014 to coincide with my 29th birthday - I wanted to kick off the last year of my 20s feeling as good as I possibly could about my body.
6 Weeks 2 Chic provides a structure that is easy to fit into my life - and I'm busy all the time, so I need something that is flexible and will work with me. I couldn't make excuses with this plan, because there were so many ways to make it work, as long as I committed. Having the Facebook group to share recipes and encouragement was a huge factor in the success, as well - I knew there were other women out there sharing my experience.
Unfortunately, I fell off the bandwagon after each of my 6W2C sessions, and by the end of 2015, I was back up to my heaviest weight of my adult life - despite taking classes, all thanks to my lousy diet. At that point, I took things to the next level and began working with Janie Soehl on my nutrition and fitness. Janie took the basics I had learned in 6W2C and helped me to see them as a lifelong habit, rather than something with an end date. That's why I'm so excited to see that she's jumped in with Danielle for this Winter 2017 session - she's going to help take an already great program and make it even stronger!
Don't get me wrong - I'm still constantly struggling to make the right choices and to convince the voice in my head that a bad day at work is not justification for chocolate cake, but I do feel like I have the tools I need to succeed, and that's thanks to Studio Poise, 6 Weeks to Chic, and Janie's knowledge and experience. It's truly a special combination, and I would recommend the program to anyone who is serious about making a change!
