Our very own instructress Erica Ferrell will be running the 2016 Boston Marathon! With six weeks to go until the big race, we're introducing Marathon Mondays - a weekly check in on Erica's training. Tune in every week for training tips, recipes to keep your nutrition in check while fueling up, and to show Erica support in her efforts!
Erica will be running the 2016 Boston Marathon. This will be her second marathon, after previously running Boston in 2009. Since that first race, a lot has changed for Erica! She had had two children (now ages 5 & 3), but has continued running (& often pushing them in the double jogging stroller) and have even placed in numerous 5/10K road races in her division. She loves to run for many reasons: exercise, peace & because it brings people together. This past November, while out on a run, she had a sort of epiphany and just knew she would run Boston again this year. The Boston Marathon is near and dear to me as a past runner & my husband who has both run and volunteered. But the even greater part of the Boston Marathon is the wonderful capability it has to to raise awareness and funds for many charities (both large & small).
Determined to find a number, Erica was fortunate enough to be chosen to run for the Massachusetts Youth Leadership Foundation. The MYL Foundation's mission is to empower citizenship through student leaders. MYL motivates students and gives them the tools necessary to become strong leaders through the MassSTAR Citzenship Conference. The conference is run solely through the support of dedicated volunteers and is completely free to students, due in large part to donations raised from fundraising efforts like these. Every dollar donated goes directly toward student programming.
This past week, Erica held a fundraiser at Sabatino's in Wakefield. Thanks to a tremendous turnout, including many friendly faces from Poise Nation and our friends at Lululemon Market Street, Erica was able to raise over $1800 toward her fundraising goal. Combined with the additional donations received from friends, family members, and local businesses, Erica is now less than $500 away from hitting her goal of $5000! If you would like to contribute to her fundraising efforts, please visit her CrowdRise site here.
We are also excited to announce another way to contribute toward Erica's goal! Fellow Poise Instructress Lindsey Quigley will be hosting a Chloe + Isabel fundraising event this week. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Erica's fundraising goal - thank you, Lindsey! To learn more about the event, join the Facebook group here.
Finally, if you want to follow Erica's training progress, she has a Facebook page set up where she posts regularly about her long runs and her training efforts. Please like her page by clicking here to show your support, and please check back every Monday right up through April 18 to cheer Erica on!
