New Class Highlights: T-BarRe-Xtreme

Have you heard the buzz about the newest addition to the Studio Poise schedule? T-BarRe-Xtreme debuted on April 10, and it's getting awesome reviews. This class utilizes TRX  Suspension Training & Barreworke elements to create the ultimate body sculpting, heart pumping, full body work out!

TRX Suspension Training uses a set of straps that hang from a single anchor point.  Working with either your hands or feet attached to the straps at one point, you utilize your own body weight as a source of resistance.  It is ALL CORE, ALL THE TIME!  Working with both elements of TRX & Barreworke, this 55 minute class will begin with a cardio blast, followed by an upper body series, lower body series, and core series designed to tone, strengthen, tighten and transform your arms, legs and core.

This class will be taught by Erica, and you can catch it Mondays at 10am (with child care!) and Tuesdays at 4:30pm. We asked her to share a little bit about how the class came to be.

I am thrilled to have worked with Danielle in creating the T-BarRe-Xtreme class for Studio Poise!  The T-BarRe-Xtreme class combines two of my favorite work outs, Barre & TRX.  I'm excited to bring my passion for both exercises to all the clients at Studio Poise.  Since many of you already know about my love of the barre through Barreworke classes, I wanted to share a little background on how I discovered TRX Suspension Training and why it has worked for me!

Since college, I have suffered with low back issues.  I have two herniated discs in my low back (L4-L5 & L5-S1 for those who are familiar the spine).  The pain was mostly just a nuisance during my college years.  But the pain was there nonetheless.  How did it even happen?  I have no idea.  Fast forward to having a baby, and all the many changes your body undergoes during this time. I began experiencing more frequent episodes of debilitating pack pain and issues that (yes, I'm just going to say it) are worse than labor and delivery.  Thankfully, I am married to a physical therapist and he has been my rock in helping me recover through these episodes.  I have seen back surgeons and pain specialists, but have not had to go the surgical route, mostly due in part to establishing proper movement and strengthening techniques in physical therapy.

So why all this back pain & physical therapy talk?  Well it was in physical therapy that I discovered TRX Suspension Training. The reason I had so many episodes of debilitating back pain was in part due to losing the strength in my mid-section after having children.  TRX Suspension Training is ALL CORE ALL THE TIME, in every exercise you do.  How do you build a strong back, you may ask?  Through a strong core!  Movements on the TRX integrate strength and balance using your own bodyweight to maximize results.

I love TRX because it works for everyone!  From the beginner, to the more advanced athlete, working out using the TRX will build strength and keep you strong.  It worked for me during my rehab period and continues to be a source of exercise to push myself and have fun while doing it!  So much so that when the opportunity to become a certified TRX Trainer was presented to me in January, I quickly jumped at the chance. And now, I am fortunate enough to bring my love of TRX and Barreworke to Studio Poise with T-BarRe-Xtreme!  I hope to pass on my love of both exercises to all of you and look forward to doing it with sweat, smiles and #sparkles!

I do want to note, that while I did use TRX during my physical therapy to aide in my recovery, if you have an injury please do seek professional medical care from a physical therapist. This class is not designed as rehabilitative, rather it designed to keep you strong, and build body strength for those who are already healthy & injury free!

Wondering whether this class is for you? Don't question - just give it a try. The TRX techniques put all of the control in your hands - you decide how far to push yourself. Erica can offer modifications, and will explain how to make each move more or less challenging based on your personal fitness levels.

A few tips for your first T-BarRe-Xtreme experience...

  • Make sure to arrive to class on time, as the first few minutes of class are spent reviewing the TRX straps and explaining how the class will run.
  • We recommend lightweight sneakers for this class, as they make it more comfortable for moves with your feet in the TRX straps.
  • Bring a towel and water bottle! You will definitely work up a sweat in this class.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions! Ask for help if you aren't clear on how to do a move on the TRX straps.

We can't wait for #poisenation to give this new class a try. Already given T-BarRe-Xtreme a try? Let us know how it went in the comments! Your feedback helps us to make classes even better!
