Special Guest Sunday - Diana Davis

This Special Guest Sunday is no other than Ms. Diana Davis.  This lady has a heart of gold and gives a killer workout every time shes in the studio.  Heres what she had to say:

Hi #poisenation! First off I would like to thank everyone from the participants, other instructresses, and of course Danielle for creating a place I love coming to multiple times a week. I have been so happy teaching classes at Studio Poise. When I was searching for new group fitness instructor positions a little over a year ago I did not think I would end up being in such a welcoming and inspiring community.

I started teaching kickboxing and interval training in 2010 at UMass Lowell. I am currently certified in Group Fitness and Personal Training and have certifications in Zumba, Piloxing, Insanity, Spin and Yoga through their organizations or various fitness organizations.

I am lucky because my full time job involves group fitness too. I am the Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness at UMass Lowell. I have been here a little over a year as a professional staff member. My favorite part of my job is getting to train and work with new group fitness instructors. Being able to watch new instructors grow and develop their skills is a great reward, honestly I probably get more excited for them than they do. I am a teacher at heart, I went to school to become a secondary teacher but ended up falling in love teaching fitness. I am able to do what I love every day. Whether it is leading group fitness at SP or UMass Lowell, working with my student staff or putting together fitness events I am always happy to be there.

Before group fitness I was doing boring treadmill workouts and fitness magazines suggestions. I now consider myself a fitness lover. I love group fitness, weight lifting, and yoga. Falling in love with fitness is important. Many people view exercise as something they have to do, not want to do. Exercise and good nutrition is so important for us. Once you find that perfect workout for you, keep doing it! My workouts are either a group fitness class or weight lifting because that’s what I love.

Do what you love because you will keep coming back. Fall in love with something whether it is Piloxing, POUND, Poise, running, barreworke, or Zumba. Do what you love and own the class. You don’t have to look exactly like the instructor. All of us are made differently; we will not look the same doing a certain move or exercise. You are there for you and there is no need to compare ourselves against someone else. There is a great metaphor for this I use with my clients: When you were younger and someone marked your height on a wall from year to year you looked at how much you have grown. You probably rarely looked at how much more or less you grew than someone else. As a child you were always excited to see you grew a little from the year before. That is how we need to look at fitness. Compare your progress to your previous self, not the person next to you or people in the media. Each class you attend is yours, focus on you and have fun!

You ladies at SP make my day anytime I am there. Keep up the great work, fall in love with fitness it’s a beautiful thing!
